Andrew L. Pecora, M.D., F.A.C.P.
Director, Adult Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplantation Program
at Hackensack University Medical Center

Dr. Pecora has spearheaded the progressive development of the stem cell/bone marrow transplantation service at Hackensack University Medical Center since joining its medical staff as Assistant Director of the program in 1990. In 1992, he was promoted to Chief and Director of the program, and in 1993, he received the additional appointment of Director of the Stem Cell Collection and Storage Service. His other Hackensack University Medical Center appointments include clinical assistant of hematology/oncology, a member of the Board of Directors of the Hackensack University Medical Center IPA, and a member of the Research Committee, the Institutional Review Board, the Transfusion Committee, and the Oncology Goals and Implementation Committee.

Dr. Pecora is an active researcher, serving as principal investigator for several ongoing clinical trials at Hackensack University Medical Center. These include projects funded by the National Cancer Institute, Merck, Amgen, and the AHEPA Research Foundation. Studies include developing individual treatment protocols and formulating and maintaining standards of care for stem cell and bone marrow transplant recipients.

A magna cum laude graduate of Seton Hall University, Dr. Pecora received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School in Newark. He did an internship and residency in internal medicine at New York Hospital (Cornell Cooperating Hospitals) and completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

Dr. Pecora is board-certified in internal medicine and in the subspecialties of hematology and medical oncology. He is a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School and a member of its affiliated Cancer Institute of New Jersey, where he is chairman of the Bone Marrow Transplant Coordinating Committee and the Protocol Advisory Committee.

Dr. Pecora holds several other professional appointments, including chief of oncology at Bergen Pines County Hospital in Paramus, N.J., director of the Blood Bank of Northern New Jersey Home Therapeutics, Inc., a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society of Hematotherapy and Graft Engineering, and a member of the Breast Cancer Task Force for the Bergen County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
